Considering Water Treatment?

In our service area, we see a wide variety of water quality issues. Some areas have heavy iron and rust, while others have acidic water. We have areas with arsenic and uranium while some of our clients have multiple issues. We have also seen an increase in well water having heavy sodium and chlorides.

We offer complete water testing service. Untreated water will dissolve copper piping, plug up hot water systems and destroy appliances. Water with bacteria can make people and pets sick. We are experts at diagnosing these problems and providing solutions. We design systems for each situation, ensuring that we can solve whatever water problems are occurring. We will also only prescribe a solution when it is warranted. Many times a client will tell us that their neighbor has a water softener, so they must need one as well. This may or may not be the case. We recommend what is needed and will not recommend something that is not. We can come to your home, pick up water samples and deliver them directly to the lab. We test for all water issues, including Bacteria, Sulfer, Lead, Radon, Iron, Manganese, Hydrogen sulfide, and Uranium. When you own a home or business, water quality is of the utmost importance. Protecting your investment, while providing high quality, safe water is a priority.

  • Does your drinking water come from a private well or does it come from a city source?

We hear this question a lot. The source of your water is very important. If you have a private well in these areas, you are responsible for making sure it is safe for consumption. If you are on a city water supply, your municipal water supplier is responsible for testing in accordance with USEPA Safe Drinking Water Act. Keep in mind, even if your water is testing through municipal, there still may be contaminants getting into your water.

The water potability test is the best option to start with. It tests the basic chemical, physical and bacterial components of the water. This is a good option to consider because it tests for E. Coli and Coliform bacteria, which should be tested at least annually if you have a private well in Pound Ridge NY.  This test provides an accurate analysis, which is also useful when determining water treatment needs.

  • Have a Private Well?

Water testing regularly is very important for those of us who live in the Northeast. Even if your water doesn’t come from a well, it is still important to know what additives may be in your water.

Testing of your water by a licensed local water expert is the key to determining if you have a water problem, how to solve your problem and what equipment and service you need to protect your family and home. We can help. We will come test your water, answer all your questions, and recommend best options for your home to have safe water.

  • Do You Have Municipal Water?

It isn’t always perfect. Water can be hard, damaging pipes, hot water heaters and dishwasher. Water can be over-chlorinated, causing dry skin, damaged hair, and poor taste. You do not have to live with poor-quality water. We can rectify these issues with simple treatment options. We install systems from a simple cartridge filter to a whole house Reverse Osmosis system and everything in between.

Home Well Water Treatment

Well water is an alternative water source for homes, and because well water is usually a source of drinking water, it needs to be treated as such. While city water comes into your home from a treated and monitored source, it is entirely up to you to maintain basic safety and sanitation levels of your well water to ensure that the water you are consuming is safe.

While well water can seem like a cheaper and more reliable source of home drinking water than traditional city water sources, well water also comes with its own unique challenges and risks.

Well Water Problems Solved with our Whole House Water Filtration System:

Cloudy or Metallic-Tasting Water - due to dissolved iron or manganese

Scale Buildup in Pipes and Residue on Appliances and Dishes - due to hard water

Stomach Problems - due to bacteria from animal waste

Rotten Egg Smell - due to dissolved minerals, oil, or gas deposits

Discolored Water - Due to tannins leaching from decaying vegetation

Nitrates - due to fertilizers if near agriculture or livestock

Well water can be very susceptible to contamination because of its proximity to the ground. Runoff from storms, construction, and nearby roads can all affect the quality of well water, and oil, chemicals, de-icing agents and overflow from sewers and water treatment plants can all find their way into well water. Microbes and bacteria such as Giardia and Cryptosporidium, which are found in surface water such as lakes and ponds, can contaminate well water during flooding or in the aftermath of heavy rainfall. In addition to outside sources of contamination, there may be threats to the safety of your well water right in your own home. Nitrates and nitrites, found in animal fertilizers, pesticides, and manure piles, pose a risk to well owners, especially those who live in rural areas surrounded by farmland. And everyday household items found in the home and garage can find their way into your well, especially with improper use or storage. Sewage and waste drainage, motor oil, and household and swimming pool cleaners and chemicals are all potential dangers to your well-being.

Experiencing These Water Issues?

We Have Solutions!

If you're dealing with hard water, PFAS, radon, iron/sulfur, bacteria, or low pH, Churyk has the solutions to address and eliminate these water issues, ensuring your home's water is clean and safe.

  • Does Your Water Smell Like Rotten Eggs?

Sulfur (Sulphur) or “rotten egg” odor can be a symptom of several issues. Churyk can test your water to properly eliminate the cause, not just the symptom. Often, high iron levels will cause bacteria to form. This is a common course of sulfur smell. We can address excessive iron at the source, eliminating the bacteria and the rotten egg smell. Additionally, hydrogen sulfide can also cause the unpleasant rotten egg smell. Churyk also provides filtration to eliminate hydrogen sulfide gas.

  • High Radon Levels?

    High Radon Levels?

Based on a National Academy of Science report, EPA estimates that radon in drinking water causes about 168 cancer deaths per year: 89% from lung cancer caused by breathing radon released to the indoor air from water and 11% from stomach cancer caused by consuming water containing radon.

Churyk Company leverages the AIRAider 433 which has successfully and dependably removed radon and VOCs from well water through a unique, patented multi-stage aeration method. It sets the standard by which other water aeration equipment is measured.

    Benefits of AIRaider 433:

    • Up to 99+% Radon Removal (customer-confirmed; independenty testted)
    • Smaller Footprint (unobtrusive, compact design)
    • Easy Maintenance (fully accessible, for easy cleaning from the top)
    • Quiter Operation (the built-in pump reduces audible levels of pump noise)
    • No Sweating (the double-wall foam-insulrated tank will not sweat)
  • PFAS (Forever Chemicals) in Your water?

PFAS (Forever Chemicals) in Your water?

PFAS, or perfluorinated alkylated substances, also known as “forever chemicals,” are used in the manufacturing of many consumer products and are resistant to biodegradation.  PFAS also dissolve in water, and combined with their chemical properties mean traditional drinking water treatment technologies are not able to remove them.

Our Solution - Activated Carbon Treatment:

Activated carbon is an effective adsorbent because it is a highly porous material and provides a large surface area to which contaminants may adsorb. Activated carbon (GAC) is made from organic materials with high carbon contents such as wood, lignite, and coal; and is often used in granular form called granular activated carbon (GAC).

A filter with granular activated carbon (GAC) is a proven option to remove certain chemicals, particularly organic chemicals (VOCs), pesticides, PFOS/PFOAs, microplastics and Radon from water.  GAC filters also can be used to remove chemicals that give objectionable odors or tastes to water such as hydrogen sulfide (rotten eggs odor) or chlorine.

  • High Iron Content?

If you have red or brown deposits in your sinks or drains then you most likely have a high concentration of iron in you water. An excessive level of iron is a common problem in the Northeast due to the geological make up of region’s soil. This means Churyk has a wealth of experience in dealing with high iron content water in your region. Watch out for these signs, as they are common indicators of too much iron in your home’s water:

    • Reddish or red-brown stains on your laundry, plumbing fixtures and cooking utensilse
    • Yellow or organce-colored water
    • Metallic taste to your water
  • Iron & Acid Staining, Low PH

Iron in your water can be a real inconvenience to deal with. There are many different types of iron that can be in your water. While some types of iron will make your clothes stain red and leave nasty stains all around the house wherever water is found, other types of iron are not as visible, such as iron bacteria. Regardless of the type of iron, you simply do not want it in your water. Churyk Company has iron removal systems that reduce iron from your water.

Acid Water is easily identifiable by the blue-green stains on plumbing fixtures. It eats away at faucets, fittings, and pipes, as well as corrodes water-using appliances. Many of the wells in this area are considered to be shallow which in turn makes your water more accessible to surface runoff.

Often time’s water from a shallow well will produce water with a low PH or acidic water. This water will be more aggressive than water with a “balanced PH”. Soft metals such as copper pipes are at risk with low PH water. The “blue green” stain is from oxidized copper from your own plumbing.

It is very important to balance the ph of your water to keep you from having costly plumbing repairs. It is recommended that your ph be 7 or higher to prevent these types of issues. There are a number of methods for elevating your PH so call us today and we will help better assess.

  • Chlorine, Bad Taste, & Oder?

If your water tastes unpleasant or poorly it is a sign that something may be in your water. A sour, salty, bitter or metallic taste can be a result of high levels of total dissolved solids in your water, most commonly chlorides, sulfates and bicarbonates. Signs of total dissolved solids include:

    • Bad taste to your water
    • Cloudy ice cubes
    • Scaling and spotting on wet surfaces
    • Accumulation of "mineral fur" around faucet outlets
    • A "laxative effect" due to high sulfates
